Dan and I celebrated our 10 yr anniversary by taking a trip to Kauai. We had so much fun kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and exploring. It was a nice break from kids/work. If I'm having a rough time at home, I'm just going to close my eyes and pretend I'm in Hawaii again swimming with a sea turtle or laying out on the beach.

Bo is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world. Bo loves to do tricks on his 4-wheeler, The only show he will watch on tv is monster jam, We have to to set up his b-ball hoop over his crib so he can play b-ball in bed, Last weekend we were camping and he (only 2) was riding the quad so fast and took a turn so sharp that we both flew off the quad, he jumped up and said over and over again with the biggest smile on his face, "i have to tell Dad I crash", when bo gets mad he says, "crap" which is really bad and he probably learned it from me but I can't help but laugh when he says it, Any time me or Dan leave the house or when we're putting Bo to bed, Bo says, "happy Birthday" and we have to say "Happy birthday" back. Instead of just saying, "i love you", he always says, "i love you too" even if you haven't told him so first. The other day, Bo accidently hurt Alex and he put his arm around her and told her over and over, "i love you too, alex"

Conference

This April I surprised Sydney with a trip to Utah for general conference. We had such a great time together that I hope taking each child to conference when they turn 8 will be a family tradition from here on out. Sydney and I shopped, toured the humanitarian center, watched the Joseph Smith movie, played in the snow, built a snowman, played games, put together puzzles and just enjoyed each other.

Dan took the 3 oldest kids camping and my sweet mother took Ammon to stay the night so that meant that I got to spend a fun evening with a couple of great friends and work on some projects. A bow holder for the girl's bathroom, Art work for the girl's room, and a floral arrangement for me. Not too bad for my first arrangement! I LOOOOVE IT!

I feel guilty every Christmas when I pull out the kid's store bought stockings. This year, I FINALLY got around to sewing the girl's stockings. The first sewing project i've completed without any help! or a pattern! And most importantly, the girls love them. Maybe I'll get the boy's stockings done this yr. I'll post pics when I do.

Hutches have always said old lady to me. That's why I dragged my hutch out of the garage, took the top off and gave it a makeover. I painted it white, antiqued it, spray painted the drawer pulls. Looks way better in our entry way than the black bench and shelf combo we had in that spot. I never thought I would really like the mirror above it that Dan bought for me before we were married but I love it where it is.

Paper pumpkins

These pumpkins are super easy, quick and cheap. Just cut up scrapbook paper in 1" strips, stack them up, punch a whole in both ends. Put your ribbon through one hole, tie it off then pull the ribbon through the other hole (making the papers curve) and tie it off. add ribbon for them stem on top.

Newport trip

This was a great trip. I am spoiled now after getting a beach house in Newport. I don't think I could do a beach trip any other way. Nothing beats being able to walk out your door, walk down two houses and be in the sand. Nothing beats leaving the boys at home with Grandma so I could actually relax on the beach and ride all the disney rides. So fun. We had so much fun shopping, eating, goint to movies, visiting Wonderland Bakery, boogie boarding, etc. etc.

Dan has been begging for a dog for a loooong time. Neither of us have ever had one and I haven't really cared because I've never liked dogs and I have also developed a fur fobia in my adult years.

Being the awesome wife that I am, I got Danny this adorable creature for his Birthday anyway.

The title says Sophie/Smores because we've had a terrible time naming her and can't agree on anything so I call her Sophie and Dan calls her smores and the girls can call her whatever they want.

I love our puppy and am so glad I finally gave in. She is so adorable! In case you're wondering, it's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They grow to be 12-18 lbs, are really good with families, and only cost a small fortune (just don't ask).

Flaming Gorge

We Took a trip with Dan's old mission companion, Nephi, just before school started. We split the time between Flaming Gorge and Park City. Catching the big lunker (28 lb, 36" lake trout) was my favorite part of the whole trip. I think I can speak for Dan that reeling in his fish was his favorite part of the trip too. Although I get to brag that my fish was bigger than Dan's fish! A shout out to Nephi and his fam- We had a Great time! Love you guys!

Dan let me get her today under one condition: Give him the rights to name the baby "Cotton". I previously told Dan that we'll name our boy "cotton" when hell freezes over. But today I was way too excited about getting a new little piglet and probably wasn't thinking clearly so Dan used that to his advantage to get the name he's wanted forever.

She is 5 weeks old and is so delightful. She has warmed up to the whole family. She will crawl into your lap, cuddle, and fall asleep just like a puppy except she doesn't shed, doesn't bark, doesn't lick you, doesn't smell, etc. She seems to already be potty trained too. I am so in love with my new little baby.

I am jumping out of my seat I'm soooo excited! 2 girls. 2 boys. It can't get any better than that! Some of you are probably scratching your heads right now. Yes, I'm pregnant. Again. No, it was not planned (who in their right mind would plan to have their babies 16 months apart?) . I am happy though. I had my first doc appt today- I'm not even 14 wks yet and they were able to tell the sex! YAY! The due date is Sept 18th.

My Sleeping Disorder

Sleep paralysis. It's been on my mind lately and I guess I'm using my blog as a way to get my thoughts out. I think everyone experiences sleep paralysis at least once in their lifetime. I have been experiencing this since I turned 18. I hate it. After the first time it happened to me, I was afraid of sleeping for months (It was years later that I realized other people might experience the same thing and I could do research to find out more about it). If I had to sum it up in 2 words I would call it sheer terror. I will explain what I generally experience during an episode of sleep paralysis.

It's usually just before I fall asleep I feel what I would describe as a pulse through my brain, It's almost electrical and it's very rhythmic. At this point I know that I am going to have an "episode" and there is no way I can stop it. Even if I get out of bed, walk around, get a drink of water, as soon as I go back to bed, sleep paralysis will take over for the rest of the night. The whooshing through my head seems to come first and then everything else happens all at once. Every time without fail I feel like dark shadows are closing in around me. I am frozen stiff. I have the greatest sense of terror, fear and dread you could possibly imagine. I can not move a muscle and as hard as I try, I can not scream out for help. There is often pressure in my brain and my ears so intense that I fear my head is going to explode or my ear drums are going to burst. I always have auditory hallucinations. Some times it is chattering in my ear or shrill screaming or just the loudest white noise you can imagine. Sometimes I feel like someone is pulling me or lifting me off the bed. I definitely always feel like there is a presence in the room. I feel very heavy, like there is pressure all around me. I feel so vulnerable and exposed. I always feel like this dark presence is trying to take me. The worst part is suffering through this when I know Dan is within 2 inches of me and is completely oblivious to the hell I'm experiencing. No matter how hard I try to move my hand one inch to nudge him or yell out to him it is in vain. Now understand, I am wide awake while all this is happening to me. It's not a dream. Unlike a dream, you do not have the ability to "snap out of it" or tell yourself to "wake up". I just have to ride it out. It can last for a long time. When it's over and I can move around, get up, get a drink of water etc. I know that if I try to go back to bed and try to go back to sleep it will most likely happen again and again the rest of the night. It's not as bad as it used to be - it actually rarely happens these days. I've had it happen only twice in the last 3 months. It used to be several times a month. It was the worst within the first couple years I was married (from age19-21) It would happen so frequently that I could actually predict before going to bed that it would happen to me because of the way my mind and body felt. If I stayed up later than usual, it was almost guaranteed to happen. When I finally got on the Internet and researched it, I learned a few things. Such as, sleeping on your back increases your chances of experiencing sleep paralysis. I never sleep on my back now and I know that really helps. I'm thankful it's not as bad as it used to be and that I'm not afraid to sleep anymore. Although, I am weary of going to bed tonight since it happened to me just last night.

An explanation in my own words: When you dream, your brain keeps your body from moving to protect yourself from physically acting out your dreams. Sleep paralysis is basically a malfunction of this process because you are wide awake when your brain is paralyzing your body. With sleep paralysis, you are wide awake, aware of your surroundings but your body is completely paralyzed. I don't understand the feelings of terror and darkness and I don't think there really is a good explanation for it either. Most everyone that experiences sleep paralysis says that it is a terrifying experience- Some are much worse than mine as they actually see figures or demons around them- whereas I don't exactly see them, I just sense their presence. Now I don't think writing this was helpful at all - I'm just really freaked out right now. You probably are too. Sorry...Goodnight?

Dan took us on a scorpion hunt in his parent's back yard for Family Home Evening last night. We had a black light and found a ton of scorpions but only caught 3. I was the lucky one to hold the jar while Dan used tweezers to put the scorpions inside. EEEEEK! I was so freaked out.

As a ward missionary I was privileged to attend a meeting this Friday at the ASU institute building where Elder L. Tom Perry was the main speaker. It was neat to see him in a more relaxed setting and get a glimpse of his personality. And it got me really pumped up about missionary work.

Saturday, some of the girls I grew up in church with had a little reunion- it was really fun - hopefully those who couldn't make it can next time!

Sunday, Sydney FINALLY FINALLY rode her bike on 2 wheels and then we went to a friend's Super Bowl Party to watch the Cardinals get defeted :(.

I've Shrunk!

I've been 5' 41/2" since 9th grade and have never failed to include that half inch as it is one half step closer to 5' 5". According to Dan, though, I am now 5' 31/2". I made him measure me 3 times just to make sure. Either I have been lying about my height the last decade or I have shrunk a whole entire inch, or Dan doesn't know how to measure. I truly hope it's the latter. Shrinkage is not supposed to happen until you are at least 3/4ths of a century old!

My New Favorite Toy

Dan has become a shopaholic the last couple years and is always buying new/big/expensive/sometimes-dangerous toys and I always get upset with him initially until I get to play with the toys and then I love them (don't tell Dan though). The Suzuki is my favorite. I love cruisin around the neighborhood on it and taking the girls for rides.

I didn't even include pics of the remote control helicopter, remote control airplane, and remote control car (that was $450. Yes. $450 for a remote control car)

The girls don't know about the shaved ice machine as it is a Christmas present but Dan and I will tell them to go play at the neighbors house so we can eat snow cones and the first thing we do when the girls go to bed at night is bust out the shaved ice machine. Poor girls.

And yes, I am a gun owner now so don't mess with me!

Now, the blow dart gun I'm not too fond of because Dan bought it for Sydney for her 5th birhday! her 5th birthday!

I love the walmart Scooter too because I can drive it with all 3 kids piled on but I love Suzuki best because it's the fastest. Dan actually bought it if for Bo soon after he was born but he can't drive it for a while since he's only 6 mo.

I gave Dan the book "Confessions of a Shopaholic" hoping that he might learn a valuable lesson from it but naturally, he never read it. I wonder what Dan will think of next.

I had a hot date this weekend at the midnight showing of Twilight. Seriously, the 1000+ girls were screaming their heads off like the teeny boppers they are and mobing me and my date and begging to take a picture with him (you would think I had Rob Pattinson in the flesh) I could have made some good $ Friday night. So how did I end up with a life size cut out of Edward you ask? Dan has this bad habbit of falling asleep on the couch and never coming to bed so I secretly bought Edward so when Dan came in the room come morning he would find Edward in bed with me - Who better to replace Dan than Edward Cullen? He was a good date - put out for me and everything (too bad I can't share those pictures because they're a bit explicit). I had the funnest time with the ladies too! Love you Sara (and sara's hot friends) and Sheri!

My Hero, Uncle Dick

I flew out to Palo Alto a couple weeks ago for my Uncle Dick's Surprise Birthday Party.

I love Uncle Dick! He is my favorite person in the whole wide world. He has touched hundreds of people's lives and I'm so glad we were able to honor him at this wonderful party.

All my life Uncle Dick has always sent me letters, e-mails, and special presents. And he has never missed calling me on my Birthday (or anyones Birthday for that matter). Over the years when I visit my Aunt and Uncle he always takes me on fun adventures to the beach, aquariums, Great America, hiking, the cirkle K (trust me, when uncle Dick wakes you up at 1 a.m and takes you to cirkle K, it is an adventure), Peninsula creamery for Chocolate peppermint milkshakes, etc. He's the best uncle a girl could have. I have to add that he is the biggest jokester too.

Our night time ritual with the girls has always been a bit elaborate, but now it's just ridiculous! The usual night time ceremony consists of (and Dan and I do this one after the other, I am always first as I get the girls to bed) counting to 10 outside their door, then coming in to "find" the girls hiding under their covers on the bed, followed by rubbing our heads together, then butterfly kisses, then Eskimo kisses, then rubbing cheeks together (referred to as "snuggles" in our home, the term coined by Alex), rubbing chins together, bear hugs, kisses, then tugging on ears and it's all finalized by the secret hand shake.

Several nights ago I did my usual part, called to Dan that it was his turn, and went into the family room to read when a few minutes later I hear Sydney and Dan reciting, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." I just about died laughing. Dan came out of their room and explained to me that Sydney had added the pledge to the night time ritual a few days ago (I had been out of town). So, now I am privileged to hear (or recite since sometimes they make me join them before we say family prayers) the pledge of allegiance every single night.

My 3 yr old, Alexis, doesn't care to hold Bo much but she frequently asks, "can we keep him?" and then squeels in delight when I assure her that we can keep him.

Sydney is 5 going on 25. She has been such a great "mommy" to Bo and a huge help to me with him. She would hold him all day if I let her. I have been sick with a nursing related infection so Dan takes over when he gets home from work and while I'm lying in bed, I hear Sydney bossing Dan around, "Dad, don't rock him so fast! Dad, don't let Bo near the cat! Dad, Bo needs his pacifier! Dad, Bo is hungry, you need to feed him!"

On Thursday, I was driving the Geo Prism heading East on Warner. I had the green light and was passing through the intersection at Val Vista when an SUV came barreling towards me from my left. I slammed on my breaks and swerved out of the way as much as I could but this SUV was going Fast and gave me little time to react so we collided with each other going at at least 45 mph. She hit my front passenger side.

The impact was really hard. I thought we were all dead. The SUV even rolled over. The Geo is totaled. I couldn't really move or breath right after impact but I heard the girls in the back seat crying and screaming and that was music to my ears. Since I'm pregnant, I was air-evacuated to the Good Samaritan hospital. The paramedics had me on the stretcher and were working on me before air-lifting me and asked me if I had felt the baby kick and that is when I completely lost it -screaming and bawling- because I hadn't felt the baby kick since the accident and the thought of loosing the baby killed me.

Once we were in the chopper, they got a heart beat on the baby and I felt baby kick so that was a huge waive of relief. By this time, Dan was at the accident and he road with the girls on an ambulance to Good Samaritan.

Once at the hospital they gave me a cat-scan and took xrays of my chest and did blood work. They were only going to keep me at the hospital for 4 hours but I was having regular contractions so they kept me over night. Sydney and Alex got checked out and seem to be fine. Poor Sydney has nasty bruises from the seat belt and she was feeling a lot of pain and has had stifness in her back and neck (hopefully she doesn't have any problems in the future with her neck and back).

I was released from the hospital yesterday and besides this horrible pain in my chest and ribs, I'm doing good (As long as I don't move I feel fine). Thankfully, everything seems to be fine with the baby and me and the girls. We are so blessed to have not sustained any more injuries considering how hard the impact of the crash was.

I have been excited about having this baby but now I am incredibly anxious to hold and kiss this little one that I thought for a short period of time I might have lost.

To Celebrate my 26th Birthday, my friends, Lynda and Robert, came with Dan and I to the Melting Pot where Robert Got stung by a scorpion on his hand during the main course! Unbeleivable!

I had a fun Birthday, though. A couple of my sweet girlfriends took me out for lunch, I got a pedicure with Lynda, and Dan surprised me with some sweet new lenses for my camera.
